INDEPENDENCE of the SEAS is HERE....
Royal Caribbean's newest ship Independence of the Seas will be setting sail in May 2008 from Miami, Florida doing Eastern & Western Caribbean cruises. It is tied for the largest cruise ship in the world (with sister ship the Freedom & Liberty of the Seas) at 160,000 tons and 1,112 feet in length. All of the innovative features of the Voyager Class ships, the ice skating rink, rock climbing wall and the Royal Promenade, will be featured on board this grandest of ships. One cool addition to the ships' design is the Interactive Pool area called the H2O Zone, an interactive water park right on board the ship! This area will feature interactive sculpture fountains, ground geysers, a cascading waterfall and circular pool. At night it becomes a magical destination all in itself. Perhaps the most anticipated area on board the Independence of the Seas is the amazing FloRider. An incredible wave simulator where you can experience the thrill of catching that perfect wave! Guests on board can actually surf on waves created by the FloRider. For those less adventurous, you can body surf on a boogie board. There will also be a Sports Pool dedicated for athletic pool games like pool volleyball, basketball, floating golf and pole jousting. Lane markers will also be set up for those who just want to swim laps. At night this area will be transformed into an open air nightclub with a dance floor in between.
The cabins on the ship are larger than on any of the other Royal Caribbean ships. The Independence of the Seas as well as the Freedom and the Liberty of the Seas, will offer more family staterooms as well. There will be six different family focused stateroom categories that are perfect for guests traveling with families and/or groups of friends. These new cabin additions sleep anywhere from 6 people up to 14 people. Every stateroom will also offer upgraded bedding, WiFi connectivity and be equipped with a flat panel TV.
**LIBERTY OF THE SEAS REVIEW** May 2007
I had the honor of being invited to the inaugural celebration of the Liberty of the Seas in Bayonne, NJ (Cape Liberty Port). This was truly an honor to be able to see this beautiful ship in person and sail on her. Royal Caribbean has without a doubt outdone themselves with this extraordinary class of ships (Freedom Class). Everything about the Liberty of the Seas is amazing. Who ever though you woudl find a Water Park, Golf Course or surfing on a cruise ship? How about a boxing ring or an ice skating rink? Royal Caribbean did! They wanted their guests to always have something fun to do. That is what lead to the creation of this impressive ship, to accommodate all of the exciting amenities on board that they wanted the guests sailing on her to participate in. If you ever thought "I don't want to cruise because I know I will get bored," this ship will definitely cure that misconception fast. This ship has it all~~ a rock climbing wall, an ice skating rink, a boxing ring, the H2O Zone water park, the FloRider surfing simulator and so much more. It's hard to even think about being bored.
When I first walked on board I knew this ship was something special. It is such a massive ship, yet so intimate feeling. Warm inviting colors with bits of glitz here and there combined with intriguing artwork throughout the ship make the Liberty of the Seas such an appealing ship for anyone. The Royal Promenade, a naturally lighted four story mall lined with bars, shops and restaurants like Ben & Jerry's and Sorrento's Pizza, is the heart of the ship and an attraction in itself. Beautifully decorated, spacious staterooms, a three story dining room with a grand staircase, combined with wonderfully elegant public areas are just some of the other things you will notice on this ship.
What is there to do you ask? There are activities for EVERYONE on this ship! The outdoor H2O Zone water park is heaven for kids (of all ages), with colorful, interactive sculptures, fountains, geyers and a circular pools with currents. Adults might even find it hard to stay away from this "cool" area. On the other side of the H2O Zone is the Main Pool area and the adults only solarium which features the first ever catilevered whirlpools which hang over the side of the ship an amazing 12 feet. If you are looking to keep fit while on your cruise, the ShipShape Fitness Center is the largest at sea, and also offers classes like yoga and pilates. In here you will also find another first: a regulation size boxing ring. What will they think of next?
For the more adventurous, the FloRider is so realistic you will think you are surfing in the ocean on the "big one." Just being an observer in the seating that surrounds the FloRider makes for a fun filled day. On the same deck as the FloRider we also have the miniature golf course, decorated with pink flamingo statues, the basketball court and the rock-climbing wall, the largest rock-climbing wall of any at sea. Moving on to the enormous Adventure Ocean Youth areas where kids from ages 3-17 can let their hair down and just have fun. The kid's area features Challenger's Arcade and a separate area totally dedicated to teens.
I really believe that anyone sailing on this ship will NOT be disappointed. This ship is perfect to celebrate your family reunion, anniversary or any other special occasion. Treat yourself today to the vacation of a lifetime.
All of this leaves only one question...When are you going to sail on the largest, most innovative cruise ship in the world?
